These easy puff pastry danishes are filled with a creamy, sweet cream cheese filling and topped with a drizzle of glaze. A perfect treat for breakfast or a sweet snack!
Ingredients
For the Puff Pastry:
- 1 sheet puff pastry (homemade or store-bought), rolled and cut into 9 squares
For the Filling:
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg yolk (reserve the white for later use)
- 1 tsp lemon juice
For the Egg Wash:
- 1 egg white
- 1 tsp water
Optional Filling:
- Raspberry preserves (or any fruit preserves of your choice)
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Directions
- Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s hot enough for the pastry to puff up perfectly. - Prepare the Cream Cheese Filling:
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, egg yolk, and lemon juice. Mix until smooth and creamy. Set aside. - Prepare the Egg Wash:
In a small bowl, beat the reserved egg white with 1 teaspoon of water until frothy. This will help give the pastries a golden sheen after baking. - Prepare the Puff Pastry:
Lay out the puff pastry squares on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Using a fork, gently prick holes in the center of each square to prevent puffing up too much during baking. - Add the Fillings:
Brush each pastry square with the egg wash to seal the dough and add a glossy finish.
Spoon the cream cheese mixture into the center of each square. If desired, create a slight depression in the center and add a spoonful of raspberry preserves or other fruit preserves. - Bake:
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed. - Prepare the Glaze:
While the danishes are baking, prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth. - Finishing Touches:
Once the danishes are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 10 minutes. Drizzle the glaze over the warm danishes. - Serve and Enjoy:
Serve the danishes warm or at room temperature. They are perfect for breakfast, a brunch treat, or as a sweet snack during the day.
Feel free to adjust the sugar or cream cheese to your taste and experiment with different fillings like apple, blueberry, or chocolate for variety. Enjoy!
