Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings

These Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings are a classic dessert, with warm, spiced apples wrapped in buttery crescent dough and topped with a sweet, bubbly sauce. Perfect for fall!

Ingredients

  • 1 large apple (Fuji recommended, or any tart variety)
  • 1 can Pillsbury Crescent dough
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup (or 6 oz.) 7-Up or similar soda

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease your baking dish.
  2. Prepare the Apples: Peel the apple and cut it into 8-10 wedges, removing the core. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the Dough: Unroll the Crescent dough and separate the triangles. Take each apple wedge and roll it in the dough starting from the wide end. Pinch the seams to seal the dumplings.
  4. Arrange the Dumplings: Place the wrapped apple wedges in the greased baking dish, leaving space between each dumpling.
  5. Make the Sauce: Melt the butter in a small pot over medium heat. Stir in sugar and cinnamon until the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract.
  6. Assemble and Bake: Drizzle the butter mixture over the dumplings. Pour the 7-Up around the dumplings to create a sweet sauce as it bakes. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the sauce is bubbly.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let the dumplings cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm, optionally with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Enjoy these delicious Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings for a nostalgic treat that’s perfect for any gathering!
