Ingredients:
- 2 cans of cinnamon rolls (with icing)
- 4 large apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Golden Delicious recommended)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- ¼ to ⅓ cup caramel sauce (salted caramel can be used for an extra kick)
Equipment Needed:
- Oven
- 8x8x2-inch ceramic or glass baking dish (7x9x2 inch can also be used)
- Nonstick cooking spray
- Mixing bowl
- Rolling pin
- Knife
- Aluminum foil
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it’s hot enough to bake the lasagna.
- Prepare Baking Dish: Spray your 8×8-inch baking dish with nonstick spray to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Mix Apples and Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the peeled and diced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Toss until the apples are well coated with the mixture.
- Prepare the Cinnamon Rolls: Open the cans of cinnamon rolls and set aside the icing for later use. Slice each cinnamon roll into ¼-inch thick pieces. On a floured surface, roll out the slices into thin layers. Dust both the dough and the rolling pin with flour to prevent sticking.
- Layer the Bottom of the Dish: Place the first layer of flattened cinnamon roll dough in the bottom and up the sides of your prepared dish. Press the dough gently with your hands to create a solid base and to seal the edges together.
- Add the First Layer of Apple Filling: Spread half of the apple mixture evenly over the base of cinnamon roll dough in the dish. Drizzle 2 to 3 tablespoons of caramel sauce over the apples.
- Add More Cinnamon Roll Dough: Place another layer of flattened cinnamon roll dough over the apple and caramel layer, pressing lightly to stick.
- Add the Remaining Apple Filling: Spread the remaining apple filling evenly over the second dough layer. Drizzle another 2 to 3 tablespoons of caramel sauce on top.
- Top with Final Dough Layer: Cover the filling with the last layer of flattened cinnamon roll dough. Press gently to seal the edges.
- Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Bake Uncovered: Remove the aluminum foil and continue baking for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Cool and Ice: Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for at least 30 minutes. Drizzle the reserved icing from the cinnamon rolls over the top before serving.
- Serve: Slice the dessert and serve as a delightful end to a meal or with your favorite drink.
Storing Tips:
- Refrigerator Storage: If there are leftovers, they can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Room Temperature Storage: Store at room temperature for up to 2 days in a sealed container.
This dish combines the comforting flavors of cinnamon rolls with the freshness of apples and the decadence of caramel, making it a perfect treat for dessert lovers!
