Cheesy Texas Toast

Cheesy Texas Toast Recipe

Ingredients

  • Garlic: 3 whole heads, needed for the garlic butter.
  • Olive Oil: 1.5 teaspoons to roast the garlic.
  • Butter: 2 cups, softened, to create the garlic butter base.
  • Mozzarella Cheese: 4 ounces, shredded for creamy melt.
  • Cheddar Cheese: 4 ounces, shredded for sharp flavor.
  • Parmesan Cheese: 4 ounces, grated for a nutty taste.
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon, for seasoning.
  • Pepper: 1 teaspoon, for seasoning.
  • Fresh Parsley: ¼ cup, finely chopped for freshness.
  • Texas Toast: 10 slices, thickly cut for a hearty base.

Instructions

  1. Roast the Garlic:
  • Preheat your oven to 375ºF (190ºC).
  • Slice the tops off the garlic heads, drizzle with olive oil, and wrap in foil.
  • Place in the oven and roast until soft and golden, about 35-40 minutes. Flip halfway through roasting for even cooking.
  1. Prepare the Garlic Butter:
  • Once the garlic is roasted and cool enough to handle, squeeze the cloves out of their skins into a bowl.
  • Add the softened butter to the roasted garlic. Mix thoroughly to combine into a smooth garlic butter.
  1. Cheese Mix:
  • In a separate bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella, cheddar, and grated parmesan cheeses.
  • Add salt, pepper, and chopped fresh parsley to the cheese mixture. Blend everything well to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.
  1. Prep the Toast:
  • Spread a generous amount of the cheesy garlic butter mixture on each slice of Texas toast. Ensure the butter is evenly distributed over the bread surface for optimal flavor.
  1. Bake:
  • Preheat your oven to 400ºF (204ºC).
  • Arrange the buttered toast on a baking sheet and bake until the cheese is bubbly and the edges are golden-brown, about 10-15 minutes.
  1. Enjoy:
  • Allow the toast to cool slightly on a rack before serving to let the flavors set.

Tips & Notes

  • Freezing: You can freeze the prepared but unbaked Texas toast. Place the slices on a baking sheet, freeze until solid, and then transfer to a freezer bag. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
  • Garlic Shortcut: If short on time, use about 3 tablespoons of pre-cooked minced garlic instead of roasting fresh garlic.
  • Air Fryer Option: For a quicker option, cook the prepared toast in an air fryer at 370ºF for about 5 minutes or until golden and crispy.

This recipe will give you a deliciously cheesy and garlicky Texas toast that’s perfect as a side for soups, salads, or enjoying all on its own!
