Cauliflower & Broccoli Salad

Ingredients

  • Vegetables:
  • 1 head of cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
  • 1 head of broccoli, cut into bite-sized florets
  • Optional additions: chopped onions, boiled eggs (chopped), peas, or other preferred vegetables
  • Dressing:
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar (adjust according to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Prepare the Vegetables:
  • Wash the cauliflower and broccoli thoroughly. Cut them into small, bite-sized florets suitable for a salad.
  • If you’re adding other ingredients like onions or boiled eggs, prepare these as well. Peel and chop the onions finely and chop the boiled eggs.
  1. Make the Dressing:
  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine 1 cup of mayonnaise and 1 cup of sour cream. Stir these together until they are well blended.
  • Add sugar, starting with 1/4 cup and increasing up to 1/2 cup based on your preferred level of sweetness.
  • Season the dressing with salt and pepper. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed to suit your flavor preferences.
  1. Combine the Salad:
  • Place the prepared cauliflower and broccoli in a large mixing bowl. If you are using additional vegetables or eggs, add them to the bowl as well.
  • Pour the dressing over the vegetables. Using a large spoon or salad tongs, gently mix until all the vegetables are evenly coated with the dressing.
  1. Chill and Serve:
  • Cover the salad and refrigerate for at least one hour before serving. This resting time allows the flavors to meld together and enhances the overall taste of the salad.
  • Serve chilled as a refreshing side dish or a light main course.

Tips

  • Variations: Feel free to experiment with other vegetables like sliced bell peppers, shredded carrots, or cherry tomatoes for added color and texture.
  • Storage: This salad can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days, making it a great make-ahead dish for gatherings.
