These Strawberry Bombs are the perfect sweet treat, combining a soft, homemade dough with juicy strawberries and fluffy whipped cream. The result is a delightful pastry that is irresistible!

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 300g (2 cups) all-purpose flour, sifted for smooth texture
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 45g (1/4 cup) granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 7g (1 packet) dry yeast
  • 140mL (3/5 cup) hot milk, for activating the yeast
  • 40g (1/4 cup) softened butter, for a tender dough

For the Decoration:

  • Whipped cream, freshly whipped until light and fluffy
  • Strawberries, freshly chopped
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Method

Prepare the Yeast Mixture:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the granulated sugar and dry yeast with the hot milk.
  2. Stir until the sugar and yeast have dissolved completely.

Make the Dough:

  1. Whisk the egg into the yeast mixture until fully integrated.
  2. Add the sifted flour and a pinch of salt to the liquid mixture.
  3. Combine the ingredients with a spatula. Once the dough starts to form, use your hands to knead it on a lightly floured surface.
  4. Knead for 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Incorporate the Butter:

  1. Gradually add the softened butter to the dough, kneading continuously until it’s fully incorporated and the dough is smooth and not sticky.

First Proof:

  1. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl.
  2. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Form the Balls:

  1. After the first proof, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
  2. Shape each piece into a smooth ball and cover with a cloth. Let them rest for 30 minutes.

Shape and Second Proof:

  1. Slightly flatten each ball and then shape it back into a smooth ball.
  2. Cover again and allow to rest for another 30 minutes.

Frying:

  1. Heat a deep pan with a generous amount of oil over low heat.
  2. Fry the dough balls, turning occasionally, until golden brown on each side (about 2-3 minutes per side).
  3. Remove the balls and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Assemble the Strawberry Bombs:

  1. Once slightly cooled, slice each ball in half horizontally.
  2. Fill the bottom half with a generous amount of whipped cream and chopped strawberries.
  3. Place the other half on top, like a sandwich.

Final Touch:

  1. Dust the tops with powdered sugar just before serving.
